Domain Name
The domain name specifies the location on a server that stores the webpage. There are many different types of servers. Web servers host webpages. Domain names are associated with numerical addresses called an IP (Internet Protocol) address on a web server. Since domain names are associated with a single web server address, they cannot be duplicated. In the example above, moonsite is the server name. Sometimes, the middle word in a URL tells the name of a college or the place to which the webpage belongs. |
